2020-21 Boys Varsity Information

By Lee Costley 01/04/2021, 10:00am CST

Sorry for the delay in sending out information for this season.  Things seem to be changing weekly and I did not want to flood you with endless emails only to have the information change.

Practice & Practice Times:

We will begin practicing on Monday, January 4th.  Monday's practice is from 3:45 - 5:15.  The practice and game schedule will be posted on the MLAHA website.  The link to the website is: https://www.mlaharebels.com

Game Schedule:

We are allowed an 18 game schedule.  The 2020-21 game and practice schedule is now complete . The game schedule will be posted on the MLAHA website as well as on Hockey Hub (https://www.mnhockeyhub.com).

Covid Protocols:

There are guidelines that we must follow if we want to have a season.  I know everyone has their own theory and beliefs regarding Covid-19 and the protocols.  We have to follow the state, school, and arena policies in order to make our season happen.  Here are some of the protocols that we must adhere to:

  • Follow all social distancing and masking guidelines as mandated by the state.  This is not optional.
  •
  • We will not have team water bottles, so each player will need their own water bottle with their name clearly marked on it.
  •
  • We will have access to the locker room to get changed in.  NO player equipment will be allowed to be stored in the locker room.  Players must bring their equipment with them every day.
  •
  • We are not allowed to store any player equipment in the locker room.
  •
  • Once game jerseys are issued to players, they are to take them home, launder them, and return them at the end of the season.  The same will go with practice jerseys.  We have new practice jerseys for this season, and they will be issued for the season.
  •
  • The same state and school Covid-19 procedures for testing and quarantine need to be followed.
  •
  • Please do not be that parent that knowingly sends a kid with symptoms to practice.  That will be the fastest way to end the season for us.  We want to give these kids every opportunity to have a hockey season from start to finish.

Blue Line Club:

For those of you that are new, the Blue Line Club keeps us going.  I ask that if you are willing and interested please reach out to Tori Ribich.  I can not say how much I appreciate everything the BLC does for our kids.  All of the resources raised goes to the kids and making things happen.

Please do reach out to Tori about helping out with the BLC.  Your son really will benefit from it.

Skate Sharpening:

We have a team skate sharpener in the locker room.  The skate sharpening stones are not cheap.  This season we will be charging $25 per player to help offset the cost of the sharpening wheels.  We have one sharpening stone left from last season.  The cost of one wheel is $60, that is up $10 from last season.

Game Volunteers:

For our home games, we need volunteers to make things work.  Without parent volunteers we can't have a home game.  The arena and the school do not cover this responsibility.  I will be sending out a google sheet for those that can help out.  Don't worry, you will not be asked to sing the national anthem.

Game day volunteer positions:

  • Tickets
  • Clock Operator
  • Scorebook/Announcer
  • Two people for penalty box and get the nets between periods.

Parent - Player Meeting:

I will schedule an online Zoom meeting this year as we are not allowed to meet in a large group setting.  I will schedule this for sometime after the 4th.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  We have a great group of parents and kids, and I am really looking forward to this season.

Thank you,

Lee
